Cha Tra Mue Jasmine Green Tea Mix Detailed Tea Review
Overview:
The Cha Tra Mue Jasmine Green Tea Mix is very popular in Thailand and is commonly used to make milk green tea. I’m a huge fan of the equally popular Thai red tea of the same brand. So I guess it’s about time I officially review the green tea as well.
So, this tea is actually a green tea mix, which means it has added sugar, color, and flavoring.
I brewed it hot at first, just to taste it on its own, and oof! the jasmine flavor hit me like a truck. It was super strong and kind of artificial. And the color? A very bright, almost neon green. Honestly, it made me hesitate for a second before even taking a sip.
However, to be fair, like I said, it’s a green tea mix and not just green tea. If yo’re looking to make Jasmine tea flavored drinks or desserts, it might be good to use for its strong flavor.
When I tried the tea tea iced, with condensed milk, it tasted much better, and almost like matcha.
There is supposedly an extra green version of this green tea as well that’s not as strong with the jasmine smell. I have yet to try it, but if you want something a bit more subtle you can check it out.
But overall, my review is that I cannot recommend drinking the Cha Tra Mue Jasmien green tea on its own. But if you like sugary iced drinks, or Jasmine tea flavored desserts, then by all means, go for it.

Brewing Conditions:
I brewed 2 tsp of the Cha Tra Mue green tea at 80°C, for two minutes, in 250 ml water. Like I said, the tea tasted too strong.
I also tried it with milk. I added one teaspoon of powdered milk to one cup of green tea. It did not do much to hide the overwhelmingly perfumey taste.
My recommendation would be to mix it with condensed milk and pour it over ice. I will have a more detailed recipe for you soon.
Aroma (2/5):
Very floral and very strong. It smells like jasmine potpourri, honestly. Not in a subtle way.
Taste (3/5):
I did not like the taste very much. On its own this tea was like I said too artificial and overwhelmingly floral. I realized that maybe this tea is good for making drinks but not good to drink on its own.
To be fair, this Thai green tea mix is actually marketed as an ingredient for green milk tea. I did try the tea with milk, but unfortunately the artificial fragrance was still too strong for me.
However, the tea tastes much better with condensed milk and poured over ice, which is the more traditional way to prepare green milk tea in Thailand using this mix.
Packaging (3/5):
It came in a standard sealed aluminum pouch. Once you open it, you’ll definitely want to transfer it to an airtight container. Nothing fancy.
The ingredients list says it’s a blend of green tea from Assam with added flavoring and color, so keep that in mind if you’re looking for a “natural” tea experience.
There is no more information on the origin of the green tea.
Value for Money (3/5):
The Cha Tra Mue Jasmine green tea mix is pretty affordable, less than USD 3 for a decent-sized bag. And since you’re only using 2g per cup, it’ll last a while. But again, only worth it if you love your iced jasmine green milk tea.
Caffeine Level: Medium
The tea did not feel very strong and didn’t cause any jitters, and it is a green tea mix and not pure green tea so that should also make the caffeine content lower than whole green tea. There is no mention of specific caffeine content on the packet however.
Food Pairings:
Since the tea is best enjoyed as a sugary iced beverage, I would recommend pairing with some fresh citrussy fruits or lightly sweet dessert.
About the brand | Cha Tra Mue
The Cha Tra Mue brand has been around forever, literally since the 1940s, and is huge in Thailand. They’re known for their classic Thai milk tea, but over the years, they’ve expanded to green tea, rose tea, and more.
Honestly, they’ve got a long history. Their old factory was once so remote they had to drag machines up a hill using elephants, and they’ve been developing their tea-making craft for over 75 years now.
If you’re curious, you can read more about their history on their website, or check out their full range of products. They definitely take pride in their teas, especially the ones made for milk tea, and their tea is quite an iconic part of Thai tea culture.
Where to Buy:
You can find the Cha Tra Mue Jasmine Green Tea Mix on their official website (depending on your location, check for shipping), and it’s often available on Amazon too.
