Harada Brown Rice And Green Tea Detailed Review

My brother sent me the Harada Brown Rice Green tea teabags from Malaysia, and I’ve been excited to try it! It’s very different from the usual green teas I drink.

This one blends genmaicha (green tea with roasted brown rice) with matcha powder, and the result is super cozy and comforting. I think it’s the kind of tea you’ll want on a cold day when you’re snuggled under a blanket with a good book.

Brewing Tips

Even though green tea is usually brewed with cooler water, I followed the instructions and used boiling water. I steeped the Harada Brown Rice Green tea teabag for just 30 seconds.

The tea came out light yellow with a strong roasted rice flavor. If you like the toasty smell and taste, try brewing it for 2–3 minutes for a stronger cup.

Aroma – 3.5/5

The Harada Brown Rice Green Tea smells mostly of the roasted brown rice. It reminded me a bit of burnt popcorn – not in a bad way, just very toasty. I didn’t really notice the scent of matcha or regular green tea here. Genmaicha is sometimes called “popcorn tea” for this reason!

Taste – 4/5

Harada Brown Rice Green tea has a very unique taste. It’s nutty, slightly savory, earthy, and really calming. It reminded me of the warm, soothing feeling you get from sipping miso soup.

If you’re new to genmaicha, the flavor might take some getting used to, but I found it quite comforting.

Packaging – 4/5

The Harada Brown Rice Green Tea packaging is simple and practical. The teabags come in a recyclable paper box, and each teabag is individually wrapped to protect it from heat and moisture. That’s great because it keeps the tea fresh even after opening the box.

Each wrapper also has clear brewing instructions. The box mentions that 30% of the blend is made from Yabukita green tea, a well-known variety from Shizuoka. It’s not clear where the matcha comes from, but Harada says on their website that they make their own matcha.

Value for Money – 4/5

At just $3.40 for 50 teabags, the Harada Brown Rice Green tea is a great deal. For the quality you’re getting, it’s really worth the price – especially if you enjoy genmaicha-style blends.

Caffeine Level: Low

Harada Brown Rice Green tea has low caffeine because it’s a mix of green tea and roasted brown rice. It won’t give you a big energy boost like coffee, but that also means you can enjoy it in the afternoon or early evening without worrying too much about staying up all night.

Still, if you’re sensitive to caffeine, try not to drink it too close to bedtime.

Food Pairings

Because of its savory and earthy flavor, Harada Brown Rice Green tea goes well with foods like seafood, oatmeal cookies, or even dark chocolate. It’s also a good match for a light breakfast or a cozy afternoon snack.
