Boh Seri Songket Mango Black Tea Review

Boh’s Mango Tea – A Tropical Delight in a Cup

Boh’s Mango tea conjures images of a refreshing summer delight. This robust and velvety black tea, infused with tropical mango flavor, offers a treat for the senses.

The Boh Mango Tea is part of the Seri Songket collection that consists of six exquisite fruity blends. This is the first of the six I’m trying, and it did not disappoint.

If you like fruity teas, then you will love this one.

In this article, we will explore:

  • Brewing Conditions
  • Aroma
  • Taste
  • Packaging
  • Value for Money
  • Caffeine Level

Brewing Conditions: The Art of Brewing Boh Mango Tea

I steeped a single tea bag of Boh Mango Tea in approximately 250 ml of water for 5 minutes in a lidded cup. This made a strong brew and brought out the mango flavor splendidly.

For an added twist, a few drops of lime juice and a teaspoon of honey elevate the taste. With the lime and honey, the tea almost reminds me of the mango juice boxes from my childhood.

Aroma (4/5): The Invigorating Scent of Summer Mangoes

The aroma of Boh Mango tea is robust and refreshing, evoking the scent of ripe summer mangoes. It’ll surely make a great choice for iced tea on a scorching summer day.

Taste (3.5/5): Robust Black Tea with a Mango Twist

The Boh Mango black tea’s flavor is robust and appealing. The mango flavor complements it admirably, though, at times, the mango notes do lean toward artificial, but not overwhelmingly so.

Packaging (4/5):

Artful Design

The Seri Songket packaging draws inspiration from a traditional Malaysian weaving technique called “Songket“. This involves the incorporation of gold or silver threads into intricate designs on silk or cotton fabric, creating a festive, shimmering finish.

The Boh Mango Seri Songket packaging beautifully reflects this tradition, and solely in terms of design, deserves a perfect score. Moreover, each tea bag is individually encased in sachets adorned with the elegant Songket design, preserving both the fragrance and flavor.

Eco-Friendly Packaging

According to Boh’s website, the paper used for the boxes is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, sourced from responsibly and sustainably managed forests.

Boh claims that their tea bag filters are biodegradable, and their sachets are recyclable, made using only polypropylene (PP). While polypropylene is recyclable, it isn’t biodegradable.

However, it is a more eco-friendly option compared to other plastics. PP takes about 20-30 years to degrade and does not release toxins during the recycling process.

Value for Money (4/5):

Now this is debatable. The base price of a pack of 20 Boh Mango teabags is only $3.55 on Boh’s website. But, handling and shipping to the US, Canada, or the UK brings the price up to around $18, which is a little steep for this tea.

If you live in Asia, then it might be cheaper for you depending on where you live.

You can order from Boh Tea USA for a select few states, but at the time of writing this article, their services are currently on pause.

On the other hand, I have seen some good deals on Amazon, with 3 packets of the Boh Mango Tea costing $18 ($6/20 teabags), which is pretty good value for money.

Caffeine Level: A Potent Wake-Me-Up Brew

Although the precise caffeine content isn’t listed on the box or the website, the Boh Mango tea is undoubtedly potent and will give you a wake-up boost.

Food Pairings: Elevating Your Tea Experience with Complementary Treats

For a delightful pairing, you could enjoy the Boh Mango tea with a vanilla crumble cookie or shortbread. Alternatively, sweet fruits like apples and peaches will go really well too.

About Boh: The Malaysian Tea Connection

Boh is a Malaysian company, producing tea in the Cameron Highlands, one of the most beautiful tea plantations in the world. The company was founded in 1929 by Archibald Russell.

Since then, it has faced many global political and economic adversity. Yet Boh has not only stood tall through it all but has expanded its area to over 8,000 acres, making it one of the largest tea plantations in Southeast Asia.

Boh has taken several steps in recent years toward making its tea production more sustainable, as mentioned above. They have reduced their plastic use, and the plastic they use (PP) is less detrimental to the environment compared to others. But they have yet to eliminate it completely.

Where to Buy: Finding the Best Deal on Boh Mango Tea

For the best value for your money, Amazon is your best bet, although availability can vary. Alternatively, you can explore Boh Tea USA and Global Boh Tea.

To make the most of shipping and handling fees, you could of course order a bunch of teas together.
